Harvest Moon:

The harvest moon was an unexplained but welcomed bonus of light to farmers of earlier generations. The Moon seems to linger in the sky night after night around the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, or fall.

This is because of the geometry of the Moon's orbit related to the Earth's tilt at this time of the year. For a few nights the Moon will rise sooner than normal giving farmers extra light in the evening. When the Moon is rising, it appears BIG and ORANGE. The size is an illusion. Let me explain: your brain uses the horizon as a reference point. Once the moon is a certain height above the horizon, your brain stops using the horizon as a reference point and the moon looks as if it has shrunk since it first appeared over the horizon, but it hasn't..

Bottom line: High or low in the sky, the Moon is the same size no matter what your brain thinks it is.
