Hello, I'm interested in finding accurate star maps of the Ottawa area, and don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Alisdair

Made an appearance at the January 2010 meeting for the first two talks with my daughter. WOW! What I saw regarding the talk on satelites was..... stellar.

Keep up the great work RASCals, and I hope to get re-aquainted in the coming months.

Best regards,

Dave Lauzon

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone else saw a large flaming object with a significant tail, falling from S to N about 9 pm on Monday November 16, 2009. I was driving through McDonald's Corners in Lanark County at the time. It crossed our path overhead, and my passenger said, "did you see that falling star?" It seemed to fall somewhere to the north, perhaps Lavant, or maybe even farther north, in the Madawaskas? I at first assumed someone had thrown a firecracker, but you could see a very definite black ball about 8 or 10 degrees wide with flames around it, with a long triangular yellow tail. The most impressive night sky object I've seen in my 60 years.

The page on the Manicouagan Meteorite Crater is excellent. We have been very curious about it after discovering its unusual donut shape on Google Earth. What an amazing canoe trip. Thanks for the great info.

I came axcross your website while searching for astromony clubs in Ottawa. I am wondering if there will be a chance to use the telescope on the museum grounds for non-members at your meeting March 13th.

I live a little too far out to attend meetings but I am interested in purchasing a decent telescope. Is/are there any recommendations. I saw one once, at a demo your society put on at the CMST, that hooked up to a laptop which kind of made me interested...
Any assistance is most appreciated. I live in the country where there are no lights and the sky is like a cloud on a clear night.

I found your site when looking for amateur star observation night events in Ottawa. I appreciated the link to the CST astronomy program pages - have lived here for 2 years and did not know about them. -Mary

I found this site because I am very interested in astronomy. W e learn a bear minimum in high school ( I'm in grade 9 ) and would love to learn more. I plan on buying a fairly good telescope soon, say around $700-800.

I might come to one of the meetings in the near futer. Very excited!!!

We hope you will attend a meeting. Our meetings are open to the public - you do not have to be a member to attend - and they are a good way to make contact with other people who share your interest. See you there!

Hi

I found your site because I was searching for "thin sections shattered quartz impact". I have been researching (looking for evidence) of impact melt from the Chesapeake Bolide 35mya 80km crater in the Washington DC area. I had thin sections made and a person looking at them thought they must be damaged from the thin section process. I am an amateur naturalist with a BS in Physics (79). I believe I have located evidence of impact melt and I am curious if the fact that all the quartz is shattered in the thin section was an anomaly?

I think the Appalachian area looks like an impact. See a Landsat view, there is also somewhat of a central peak!

I plan on keeping track of your findings thanks for the site.
