Ground breaking

Today CRC provided the backhoe and the ground breaking for the SMARTscope observatory happened.

Al Seaman in action

It made fairly quick work of the top layer of dirt, gravel, rocks and boulders. Then there was a lot of extra work breaking up the top layers of cracked limestone and getting that scraped off. All-in-all, about four to five hours a digging were involved and the rock slab for the entire building is more or less bare. The trench for the power cable is also dug. Still to be done is the trench to bury the ground cable in the low spot adjacent to the observatory.
