SMARTSCOPE Simulated User Interface

The SMARTSCOPE is not built yet, but part of our design effort is to come up with a way for people to use the telescope via the Web. This page shows some ideas about how it might work, and shows some pictures similar to what we might get from the SMARTSCOPE when it goes into operation.

Here's what you might see if you were standing beside the SMARTSCOPE, looking south-west in the Spring. This picture was taken at one of the proposed sites for the SMARTSCOPE. To make it easy to understand where in the sky the telescope is pointing, we could create a library of pictures like this, or we may be able to attach a "WebCam" on top of the main telescope.
To select an object for the telescope to view, you could enter an object name, or its coordinates. The green circle shows approximately where and how big the telescope's field of view would be.

Click on the "View" button below to see a simulated view through the telescope.
