This is an exciting year for Astronomy!

This is the International Year of Astronomy (IYA), a UNESCO-sponsored event that marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of a telescope. Over 140 countries around the world are celebrating the occasion with a year-long series of public events designed to help people rediscover their place in the universe through a better understanding of the night sky.

The Ottawa Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) is proud to offer, and be part of, the following IYA events for 2009.

If you would like to be notified about free public stargazing and other astronomy events, please send an e-mail to the Ottawa Centre Outreach Coordinator, Mike Moghadam with your name and e-mail address.

We hope you will celebrate this special year with us!
